
Biography of Nima Kanchha Sherpa
Nima Kanchha Sherpa (born April 20, 1977) is a distinguished Nepali high-altitude mountaineer, Sirdar, and founder & Managing Director of SKA Adventures. A native of Solukhumbu in the Everest region, Nima rose from porter to professional Sherpa and expedition leader over more than two decades, developing deep expertise in extreme-altitude climbing, technical mixed terrain, route planning, expedition logistics, risk management, and staff mentoring.
He has worked on Mount Everest 15 times, achieving eight successful summits, and has guided climbs on Makalu, Cho Oyu (three summits), Ama Dablam (five summits), Manaslu, Putha Hiunchuli and Mustagh Ata (China) more than 100 6000m peaks in the Himalaya. In 2013 he served as climbing partner and Sherpa guide for Arunima Sinha on the EcoEverest Expedition, spending 26 continuous hours above Camp 4 (the South Col) to support her historic ascent as the first female amputee to summit Everest.
Nima is a two-time Guinness World Records holder and the first Nepali to co-host the world’s highest dinner party and to complete the highest-altitude bicycle ride. In 2018 he co-organized a black-tie, three-course dinner at 7,056 m on Everest’s North Col with British adventurer Neil Laughton to raise funds for Community Action Nepal. In 2024 he and Laughton set the record for the highest altitude bicycle ride at 7,246 m on Putha Hiunchuli; Nima became the first Nepali to ride a bicycle to that summit while the expedition supported education and community projects, including the Tenzing Norgay School in Karakot, Dolpo.
Through SKA Adventures, Nima designs and leads Sherpaled treks and expeditions across Nepal, Tibet and Bhutan. His trek portfolio ranges from classic, culturally rich treks such as Everest Base Camp, Gokyo Lakes, and Annapurna Circuit to remote, high-altitude routes Upper Dolpo, Manaslu Circuit, Kanchenjunga Base Camp and technical climbs and guided peaks such as Ama Dablam and Cho Oyu. SKA Adventures emphasizes small, guided groups, high safety and acclimatization standards, locally employed Sherpa staff, environmentally responsible practices, and community reinvestment.
